A cidade de Vizela situa-se no Norte de Portugal na convergência do Minho com o Douro Litoral, dista 50km do Porto e tem ligação por auto-estrada e está a somente 8km de Guimarães cidade Capital Europeia da Cultura 2012, estando ambas ligadas por modernos comboios que também fazem ligação à cidade do Porto. Desde o aeroporto Sá Carneiro no Porto pode chegar até Vizela usando apenas o metro até à estação de São Bento e o comboio directo até Vizela.
Vizela é sede de município com 24km2 e 22.595 habitantes com 7 freguesias no coração do Vale de Vizela. No município a industria têxtil, vestuário e calçado predominam mas também tem tradições comerciais e agrícolas.
O Vale do Vizela tem um grande potencial turístico ainda por explorar com grande enfoque no termalismo, no monte e santuário de São Bento e nas origens romanas, mas a sua vocação turística não se esgota aqui, são famosos os restaurantes de Vizela, o doce Bolinhol ou Pão de Ló coberto de Vizela; as paisagens naturais tendo o vale e o rio ambos do mesmo nome; a História de Tagilde com o 1º Tratado Portugal Inglaterra em 1372 e berço de S. Gonçalo; as origens castrejas do monte da Tocha em Santo Adrião; as paisagens agrícolas de São Paio, Tagilde e Santo Adrião; as casas solarengas e rurais e ainda a história da 1ª fábrica no mundo a produzir papel através da pasta de madeira.
